Maggie Timoney is set to be the chief executive officer of Heineken USA in September. She is making history as the first woman to ever become a CEO of a major beer company in the United States. Having over 25 years of experience in the same industry, she is very much ready to take the position and the challenges that come with it.
According to a recent Nielsen poll, millennials prefer wine more than beer. This challenging market is just one of the many challenges that Timoney will have to face as she steps into the chief executive position.
But with an extensive 25 years of experience in beer and cider industry, she has proven that she can make complicated things simple and that she has a capability to deliver excellent results through people.
"She understands the challenges and opportunities that exist within the U.S. market and she has the right mix of strategic vision, people leadership and grit to ignite future growth for Heineken USA," said Marc Busain, Heineken America's region president.
Timoney, who previously worked as the CEO of Heineken Ireland since 2013, will be replacing Ronald den Eizen who will be in Holland for a global role in the company.
Additionally, she also joined the national sales planning team in Heineken USA in 1998 after working for equally prestigious companies E&J Gallo and Anheuser-Busch. Aside from that, she was a part of the sales, strategic planning, and distribution roles in the Netherlands and became a managing director of Heineken Canada in 2006.
Heineken, which is the second largest beer company next to Anheuser-Busch InBev, currently has an executive management team consisting of 50 percent women that includes Tara Rush as the company’s chief corporate affairs officer, Jessica Schilling as chief people officer, and Julie Kinch as chief legal counsel.
