Meet the Woman Who Has Been Running a $2.8 Billion Business For Almost 30 Years!

Janice Bryant Howroyd, founder of Act 1 Group
Janice Bryant Howroyd is a North Carolina native who left her hometown in 1976 with just $900. In 1978, she founded Act 1 Group - which is now the largest privately held, woman-owned workforce solutions company based in the U.S. Her company generates billions of dollars in annual revenue, has offices in 19 countries with over 17,000 clients, and has more than 2,800 employees worldwide.

Headquartered in the Los Angeles area, Janice's company provides employment, workforce management, and procurement solutions to Fortune 500 organizations, local and mid-market companies, and government agencies.

She leads her teams to build business success based on the ability to connect major employers with great talent, and because of this, she is currently #39 on Forbes list of America’s richest self-made women.

Investing in herself

When her company first started making millions of dollars, Janice took this money and re-invested it to take her company to the next level.

She specifically invested millions into creating the industry’s most advanced technology and talent platform serving the ever-changing utility, energy and broadband communication space.

Her vision, as an industry leader, is fostering connectivity between these sectors giving competitive advantage to clients engaged in cyclical markets. Her understanding of global market demographics and trends has made her a highly sought after ambassador, speaker and commentator on global business issues.

During the Obama administration, Janice was selected by former President Obama himself to serve as a White House appointee, and continues to serve under the current administration, as an Ambassador of Energy.

Giving back

Janice's passion for education, mentorship, and self-empowerment initiatives have earned her many professional and philanthropic recognitions, and she is a sought after speaker and media subject matter expert in her fields. She shares a lot of valuable advice and insight in her book entitled The Art of Work: How to Make Work, Work for You, which has received rave reviews from industry professionals around the world.

She is also known to make very generous donations to causes that support STEM education, particularly for women and minorities. And when addressing others, she often repeats what she says is her personal motto: "Never compromise who you are personally to become who you wish to be professionally." She also often says, "One cannot effectively lead without passionately serving."
