Gail Koziara Boudreaux, regularly included in Fortune's "Most Powerful Women in Business" list and also a former NCAA basketball player for Dartmouth College back in the 1970's, has now been named the next president and CEO of Anthem Inc. Anthem is the nation's second-largest health insurer.
Gail was previously at UnitedHealth Group Inc.'s UnitedHealthcare division and was one of the top-ranking women in health care. In 2012, she was considered a CEO candidate for insurer Wellpoint. She has also worked at her own advisory firm, GKB Global Health, and as a director at companies including Minneapolis-based Xcel Energy Inc.
Although UnitedHealthcare did not explain in their company announcement, Gail left the company for valid reasons. Although she had been considered for the top position, and most were certain she would be the next CEO, the company ended up forming a four-person "office of the CEO" which did not include Boudreaux. That's when she left.
Now Gail has the opportunity, as CEO of Anthem Inc., to "lead an enterprise where I can make a difference," she states. She has been named by Fortune as one of eight of its "most powerful women." After she left UnitedHealthcare, all eyes were on her to see where she would land. According to many other women CEOs on the Fortune list, it is not unusual for top women to undergo major job changes.
Gail has proven that she is a strong, talented women who can land on her feet!
