Mompreneur Launches the Cutest Ever Line of Cloth Diapers For Babies

Margarita McClure, founder of Blueberry Diapers
Margarita McClure was diapering her toddler son when she started designing her own cloth diapers. Then she realized other moms were looking for a design that really worked, and decided to try selling them. Her knack for designing with attractive colors, along with the versatile design of the snapping diapers, created a winning combination that other parents wanted to buy.
Eventually, Margarita and her husband grew the diaper business so they could hire his mother to help in the office and as a nanny for their four children. She comments, "I like to joke that I broke my mother-in-law out of prison because she was working in the prison, maximum security for hard-core criminals. It's a hard place for a woman to work in. So I told my husband that when the time comes when we can afford it, I'd like to get her out of there and have her work with us."

Already a worldwide brand

Margarita's brand, Blueberry Diapers, is popular around the United States and the world. She credits getting into the business a dozen years ago when she was able to fill a need in the natural parenting industry.

She designs the patterns that her husband prints in their West Knoxville warehouse. They provide 10 local jobs, plus 40 other jobs around the United States. They ship the copyrighted fabric to Southeastern US manufacturing facilities. Then they distribute the finished diapers from Knoxville throughout the world.

Sold out in the first month

It took Margarita about 6 months to create their web site. Once it went live, the company sold out 2,000 diapers in the first month. One year later, she wanted to add more designs, making her brand of diapers luxurious, like what Victoria's Secret does for women's lingerie.

The company now has over 30 different designs in animal prints, flowers, tie dye, and more. It's a full-time business with a 5,000 square foot warehouse, and they're selling 15,000 diapers per month with distribution to Europe, Asia, and South America.

Margarita says that their real purpose is to "bring the joy back to being a mom."
