| Why
Should Women Start Their Own Businesses?
Women
have long been underrepresented in the business arena and
in leadership jobs. According to the Associated Press and
a recent study, more than half of all Fortune 500 companies
in 2006 had fewer than three women corporate officers. In
addition, women held only 6.4 percent of the top earning
job positions.
That
same article revealed that "women's
progress in getting the top jobs in American business is
so slow that at the current rate they are becoming corporate
officers, it would take 40 years before women catch up with
men."
This
means that women are left with two choices: They can either
wait 40 years, or they can take the initiative now to start
their own business.

Owning
a business empowers women to control their future. They do not
have to depend on a society that is controlled by men, who have
long dominated the playing field. Ownership
gives you more flexibility with your time, an unlimited income
level, and the ability to work from home. In addition,
owning a business allows women to hire other women - placing them
in leadership roles.
How
Many Successful Business Women Are In The United States?
According
to the 2002 Census, there are currently 6.5 million business in
the United States that are majority woman-owned. 2.4 million
of these are owned by women of color (African-Americans, Hispanics,
and Asians). In addition, women represent the fastest growing
demographic of entrepreneurs. Between 1997 and 2006, women-owned
companies grew at the twice the rate of any other group.
Business
women have found huge success from traditional businesses
such as hair salons, nail salons, and restaurants. However,
more and more women are running advertising agencies, public
relations firms, government contracting agencies, accounting
firms, engineering firms, and more. Others have found success
in the workplace as managers, executives, and even CEOs
at major corporations in the United States.
Even
more, many business women have found success as independent
consultants and sales associates for network marketing
companies such as as Isagenix, Mary Kay, Herbalife, Warm
Spirit, Prepaid Legal, and more.
